 sary of Hiroshima\, the world is entering a new and more dangerous nuclear
  age. The Israeli and US strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities could well
  lead several other countries to consider developing nuclear weapons. Chin
 a is building its arsenal while the United States and Russia appear ready 
 to let their long-standing nuclear treaty (NewSTART) expire next year.\n\n
 The long term disposal of radioactive waste remains unsolved and as the le
 thal stockpile grows\, many nuclear states are looking to Australia a poss
 ible nuclear waste dump. Will Australians continue to reject becoming the 
 world’s nuclear dump?\n\nGem Romuld       \n\nGem Romuld is the Au
 stralian Director for the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapon
 s\, which won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017.  ICAN is currently building 
 awareness and pressure for Australia to sign and ratify the UN Treaty on t
 he Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.\n\nDave Sweeny          \n\nDa
 vid Sweeney is a prominent Australian anti-nuclear campaigner. He works fo
 r the Australian Conservation Foundation and is an opinion writer and spok
 esperson on topics including uranium mining\, nuclear waste\, nuclear ener
 gy\, nuclear weapons proliferation\, nuclear accidents and related indigen
 ous rights issues. Dave was one of the founders of the International Campa
