DESCRIPTION:Title: Constructive engagement with China: Does China threaten 
 Australia’s future peace and security?\n\nThe United States and China ar
 e contesting for great power supremacy. Australia depends on the United S
 tates for security\; and on China for our economic prosperity\, with China
  accounting for a third of all our exports. How should Australia best navi
 gate this challenge? In recent years there are some who suggest that China
  is our greatest military threat.  Our current Defence Strategy amplifies
  this\, most obviously through the acquisition of AUKUS nuclear powered su
 bmarines and long range missiles.  \n\nIn this Webinar\, Dr Vince Scappat
 ura will share his assessment of China’s and Australia’s search for pe
 ace and security in our region. Dr Scappatura teaches Politics and Interna
 tional Relations at Macquarie University. His research interests include A
 ustralian and American foreign policies\, the international relations of t
 he Asia-Pacific\, and Middle East politics. His latest book is The US Lobb
 y and Australian Defence Policy. \n\nAlso\, Dr Jocelyn Chey\, inaugural Ex
 ecutive Director of the Australia-China Council\, former senior diplomat a
 t the Australian Embassy in Beijing\, and now Adjunct Professor at the Ins
 titute for Chinese Arts and Culture at the University of Western Sydney wi
 ll offer her approach for Australia to live in peace and security with Chi
